Sayulitas Mexican Food – πŸ†πŸ†πŸ†πŸ† Now in San Marcos, CA

Look what I found right nearby in San Marcos. Worth writing about once again.

Sayulitas became my friend after learning of their location near my workplace in Mira Mesa. They had an effective series of Facebook ads that hailed several daily offerings for a variety of $5 burritos and other specials, including one (not my thing) that was made with hot Cheetos and carne asada. I was also taken by surprise that their menu also included several Philippino or Pacific-Islander ingredients fuzed with some of the normal Californian-Mexican food offerings. Their other weekday specials have included carne-asada or al-pastor fries and the likes.

I have since visited their Escondido location to capture those $5 giant burrito specials, and I mean GIANT. Their giant burritos are about 10”+ long by about 3” round. So generally speaking, for $5 you are going to get a lot of beans, rice, . . . Cheetos. A lot of filler, but also a lot of the primary protein. I think they are favorably well balanced, unless you’re like my son that liked the hot Cheetos. The normal burrito is not a one-person or one-meal show. These things are frequently wrapped up as leftovers and taken with the afternoon snack in mind. HUGE! Even at the normal price for these specials they are still worth the β€˜two-meal deal’ they make up.

I have come to like the Sayulitas’ Special that is made with a hearty amount of medium-size shrimp. A bit more pricey than the other burritos, but the flavors are pretty spot-on. You’ll even find that one as an occasional special.

Sayulitas has a chip and salsa bar and a full Mexican menu. Seating is also available at their locations as some of their plates are also not typically California style Mexican take-out. We’re talking a full-blown Mexican cuisine menu.

This particular location on Nordahl Rd. used to be another Mexican taco shop. I had always questioned if the previous owners were surviving because there was another Mexican food place and a Mexican-style chicken place right nearby.

I’m beginning to see familiar faces behind the counters, as they continue to grow and open new stores. Those employees have always been the friendliest and warmest with their service. I’m glad to see them do well.

Always more food than I can eat in one sitting. This place is not necessarily for everyone that likes their own favorite Mexican takeout, but Sayulitas Mexican Food has a better and bigger twist (roll) than most.
