A quick stop at Nothing Bundt Cakes in San Marcos, CA was anything but a quick stop.
Let’s start with the decor of this trendy hot spot for grabbing a last minute birthday gift. The parlor is done up in a way that makes you want to try everything, but everything is cakes, and cakes and cakes. Bundt cakes. The decor alone, with the company’s brown, soft blue and cream tones sets the stage for what is to become a palatable sensation of soft, velvety and very moist creations that make you crave more and more, of each of the flavors.
Being greeted upon entrance and immediately catered to and assisted with the shopping experience, led us back to the ordering counter where we kept choosing and choosing until we had just the right combination of treats for our gift. In between selections and in between the crowded showroom of various merchandise and other shoppers, were occasional opportunities to strike at the sample platter of today’s sample delights under a clear plastic dome. Getting to that dome was difficult because everyone else in the store was waiting and hovering, waiting for the others that were hovering and waiting to get at the samples inside.
Once at the samples, it’s not like you can have just one, but you try to be polite because other patrons are still waiting and hovering. What else to do while your order is being prepared and gift wrapped. Hell, grab another. We were in the store for about 15 minutes and I watched a once full sample platter disappear before my eyes. I’m glad I grabbed two when I had the chance.
Once our order was filled, we saw a cute gift bag in which we wanted to put our gift inside. “We’ll take that one”, we said while pointing to the wider bag on the shelf above. It came with a piece of decorative filler paper to make it look nice for presentation. The clerk checked us out and gave us our carefully packaged gift including the decorative filler paper . . . smashed underneath the cakes. 🍆
Oh well, so much for the best gift ever. Still some darn good cakes. We just fixed the paper when we got to the car as practice for wrapping gifts this coming holiday season.
