KYB Shocks and Struts. A recognizable difference.

KYB Shocks and Struts

Had these bad boys just installed on our 2012 Honda Odyssey Touring Elite. Wow what a ride difference new shocks and struts can make on a vehicle, especially if you expect a lot from your vehicle. I just couldn’t settle for a cheap American brand like Monroe or Gabriel; been there, done that. I attempted to buy Bilstien, but that company doesn’t make struts for this particular vehicle. Trust me, I tried to put the best on this van because it is a nice van that is fully equipped for touring. We wanted it to ride right, and I didn’t want to have to replace them again in another 50K miles. The Odyssey has nearly 140K miles on it now and these KYBs will last another 140K possibly outliving the Honda.

Had them installed by my mechanic at S&R Service Center, and Niko, the owner noticed the same quality saying, “it’s incredible what new shocks can do”. The ride quality difference was remarkable. The vehicle now has a controllability about it, even more so than with the original equipment.

What I didn’t understand was the lack of consistency and quality in the packaging when they arrived on my doorstep. I have purchased KYB products before and have never had seen where gas-filled shocks are not packed and shipped in a compressed state, usually with a retention strap to keep them compressed for ease of installation. Nor have I ever received like parts (same part numbers) packaged and shipped in different boxes, one for a compressed shock and a longer box for the uncompressed shock. I don’t think there is any difference between one that is, and one that is not toward the lasting performance, just for facilitating the installation. For this particular vehicle, luckily, these shocks do not have that much pressure as do others like the Bilstiens. Sometimes gas pressurized shocks are a pain to install.

Also one of the packages, as seen in the picture, arrived with the strut poking through the box. I’ll have to get on EBay to complain about that one. They’ll probably blame UPS or FedEx for their mishandling; however the packaging inside the box was insufficient to properly retain the item from moving about while the box was taped shut. Sheesh, what are ya gonna do? I’m just a Dick. I’ll give KYB 🍆🍆🍆🍆 just because the packaging was jacked.
